A bit late… but finally catching up with the blog, a couple of months later!

We spent one week in and around Sydney, as it was on our way out of New Zealand. Our expectations were quite high, and we were not disappointed at all. We were impressed with the international buzz, beautiful architecture, as well as the relaxing nature surrounding the city. Although we suspect that having spent 5 months in the calm provincial New Zealand made Sydney seem even more cosmopolitan 😀

We ate different delicious asian foods every day, admired the old victorian houses, new skyscrapers and of course the Opera, walked in tropical parks, got obsessed with colourful parrots, absorbed the relaxed atmosphere of the harbour and beaches, enjoyed some cultural intermissions and hiked in beautiful Blue Mountains just an hour away from the bustle. Phew, what a week!

The famous opera that we admired at daylight and sunset, from the boat and from the ground, and even from the inside

Tanning with a view (with nice not-too-hot temperatures, May is autumn after all!)

Each of the opera building “sails” is a different concert hall. We got to hear a symphonic orchestra concert (but unfortunately we were still tired from our flight so struggled to stay awake :P)

The modern skyline…

…fancy modern harbour…

… but also cute old victorian houses in neighbourhoods like Surrey Hills where we stayed

The cockatoos are everywhere in the parks, like locals pigeons… so pretty!!

César made friends with one

These other ones are less pretty and we were told they are pests that eat rubbish

Everyone knows Australia is full of dangerous beasts… even the trees try to kill you!

Local street art

Beautiful aboriginal art in the Art Gallery of the New South Wales

Blue Mountains, so called because of the blue haze created by emanations of the eucalyptus forest

Sunset on the 3 Sisters rocks

A little loop on the coast north of Sydney, wild and empty

It’s “winter”, way too cold for locals to come to the beach!
