So for the first time in my life, I took the metro for half a day non-stop, just to look at it. In Moscow all metro stations are marble-filled and grandiose, but some of them are even more elaborate – so there is an advised  tour that tourists do.

And contrary to what I was expecting, not all the decoration is soviet propaganda. The metro was built from the 1930s and incorporates lots of Art Deco style elements.

And then of course, some of the stations have purely soviet themes, that can range from slightly scary (Revolution Place station – dark and full of sculptures getting out of the walls) or actually cheerful light propaganda, like the Belorusskaya and Kievskaya stations, that celebrate the culture of Belarus and Ukraine and their friendship with the Russian people.
